OOPS (September 2011)
I made a big, but big mistake. In my August newsletter when I was talking about the behests that Josie made, I mentioned that Jane Durland Kidder was her godchild --wrong. Jane was not Josie’s godchild; Joan Durland (Larkin) was. And so I apologize to my sister for the error. Also I didn’t identify where the McHenry House was. It is the same building that is now called the Town House or Town Club (I’m not sure) on the northwest corner of Riverside Drive and Pearl Street. At the time Joe Heimer bought it, it was called the McHenry House and I honestly don’t know when the name change occurred, probably when it was remodeled into apartments. These errors teach me a big lesson. I have to remember that when I write about people, places, and things, many of my young readers may not be familiar with the subjects. I promise to be more careful in the future.
Coincidence. I have to tell you a genealogy story about my present subject, Bernhard Schuenemann. After I had written the Schueneman book in 1988 and had started to write newsletters for the family, I received a letter from Lorraine Melton of Danville, Kentucky. In it, she said she knew she was a descendant of Bernhard Schuenemann, another member of her church had the last name of Schueneman, and she wondered if it was her family. And that is how it all started. She decided to find out if they were related. Through this other Schueneman (a descendant of Johann Heinrich through his son Gerhard) he learned about the book and the newsletters

and was able to get my address. She wrote me a letter and together with Frank Suerth of Chicago we pieced together all the facts about Bernhard.
I want to give Frank many kudos for all the help he has given me throughout the years. I am indebted to him for so much. Lorraine is the one who sent me the picture of Maria Catherine, Bernhard’s wife, who I mistakenly in the original story about Bernhard many years ago called her a daughter. This is why facts and records have to be proven and when mistakes are made, they need to be corrected. |
I have saved several letters from Lorraine and when I decided to do this current issue I wrote to her to advise her and tell her about it, but sadly I received a very nice letter from her son saying Lorraine had died. However, now I know about a very, very distant cousin from Bernhard who lives in Danville KY., her son William Melton Jr. It all happened through a coincidence because of the Schueneman name, but in the Celestine Prophecy we learn there are no coincidences.
